The stories and characters Greg Sindel creates could not come from anyone else. With his inimitable characterisations and phrasings putting new spins on classic archetypal superheroes and monsters, each item in every story is unmistakeably Greg’s.

Greg works regularly on commissions and portraits, with a deft ability to spot or conjure something unique from within each sitter – be that their inner superhero, or perhaps a villainous alter ego. Greg loves undertaking research, and he has a formidable depth of knowledge about comic books as well as cult and horror films. His works traditionally employ a distinctively vivid colour palette and expressive text that communicate the theatricality of his practice. Greg is as passionate as he is prolific, with an enviable work ethic and a seemingly bottomless trove of new ideas.

Since launching his first graphic novel at Kinokuniya in 2012, Greg has completed books and animation with a range of collaborators, including Arts Law, UTS and Erth Visual and Physical Inc. who, in 2015, worked with Greg to realise a puppet incarnation of one of his characters. Greg has appeared at events including Byron Writers Festival and TedX Sydney, and his collected works are held in the collection of The National Library of Australia and Artbank.

Greg’s world – which sees classic tales play out in Sydney suburbs – is a big draw for curious onlookers, and he finds it a welcome respite from the challenges of everyday life. Greg says he hopes his work will bring some levity and relief to audience members everywhere.
