Interested in joining Studio A?

Studio A is a supported studio and professional development program designed for talented, ambitious artists living with intellectual disability. We tackle the barriers that artists with disability face in accessing conventional education and opportunities to become professional, successful and renowned contemporary artists. We provide working studio space equipped with specialist materials and support staff, mentorship and hands on assistance in realising major artistic projects.

Studio A is committed to providing effective and sustainable service. For this reason entry is by application and capacity is limited to fifteen artists. Applications are opened once yearly (pending available space) and is announced on our website, e-news and social media.

Application process

Artists will be asked to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) that includes a portfolio of work and addresses the four criteria below. Applications are assessed by a curatorial panel comprising Studio A’ s CEO, Principal Artist and one associated professional artist.

To join Studio A artists must:

·       Have an established portfolio of artwork demonstrating a sustained and excellent art practice;

·       Demonstrate a capacity to work professionally in a studio environment;

·       Demonstrate a commitment to their art practice;

·       Have an appropriate support network to sustain participation in Studio A.

Unfortunately Studio A is currently at capacity and not able to take on new artists at the moment.

If you would like to join our wait list we will contact you at our next in-take. In addition, we recommend signing up to our mailing list below, that way, not only will you receive notifications about future applications but also invitations to Studio A exhibitions, events and workshops.

We also recommend checking out our partner organisation Studio ARTES, as they offer a broad range of creative development programs, and Accessible Arts — an excellent disability advocacy organisation with valuable resources for creative practitioners with disability.
