Damian Showyin’s dedication and focus to his practice is clear in his exhibition Suede Blue.

This presentation shares just a portion of a year's worth of work. Filling the entire top floor of Mosman Art Gallery. Damian's exhibition intersects painting and sculpture which builds an environment that invites wonder, curiosity and playfulness.

In his expanded painting practice Damian interrogates the architecture, intersecting, manipulating and assimilating his works into the space. The walls and roof become another piece of the puzzle, a material to play with rather than just a neutral space to hang work on.

With a carefully chosen palette Damian’s organic grids lay the foundations to a landscape that is familiar yet surprising. The audience is taken through a space you self navigate, where you are invited to find your own points of interest,  moments of meditation and immerse yourself in his dynamic world.

"I paint different colours – blue, orange, red, white, pink, green, and brown. I like different colours. I feel happy when I paint. When I'm painting I'm calm.

I feel proud of these works hanging on the wall. I’m excited to show this work. I would like everyone to see my art." - Damian Showyin

Damian’s gentle soul and caring personality are seen in his meditative practice of painting. His process of layering and covering paint is caringly administered to the cardboard and wood creating grid like patterns within paintings. It is clear that this is a real labour of love.

Suede Blue, Damian's first solo exhibition, ran from Saturday 18, May until Sunday 28, July, 2024 at Mosman Art Gallery.
