Merman Metamorphosis
08 June 2021

As part of the inaugural Sydney Solstice Festival, Studio A and Jaycee Kim were commissioned to create Merman Metamorphosis, a large-scale moving image work that was projection mapped onto the rooftop of the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney, with nightly screenings throughout the festival.

Jaycee Kim worked with digital artist Christopher Haysom to create the animation, through which Jaycee told the story of a shapeshifting underwater creature, itself a symbol of transformation that casts aside the shackles of gender norms as it glides past colourful sea creatures in the harbour.

The work was accompanied by Harbour Garden, a large-scale outdoor installation and dazzling homage to the aquatic life in the Sydney Harbour produced by Meagan Pelham, Lauren Kerjan, Daniel Kim and Annette Galstaun.
