Thom Roberts is a multidisciplinary contemporary Australian artist whose distinctive style features extra sets of eyes and noses and his signature ‘piano teeth’. Portraiture is integral to Thom’s practice and defines the world as he experiences it. From paired portraits of people and trains to expansive cityscapes where buildings are people and people are buildings, Thom invites audiences to consider the world through his eyes.
Published in association with the exhibition The Immersive World of Thom Roberts at the National Portrait Gallery, this book captures the vibrancy and innovation of Thom’s practice over the last decade with over 60 high-quality reproductions of his paintings, drawings, animation and installations. The accompanying essay by exhibition curator Isobel Parker Philip offers a comprehensive insight into the meaning, complexity and significance of Thom’s work.
