Greg Warburton was a highly regarded artist with a long history of working with adults with disability. He met Daniel Kim through a program at Studio A in Crows Nest, Sydney. An Archibald finalist on six occasions, Warburton died in October 2022.
‘I’ve painted a self-portrait, holding my photo album of Greg Warburton. Greg was my friend and art mentor for many years. I would meet Greg in his Concord West studio each fortnight to paint and work on my commissions. I have done lots of painting commissions with Greg’s support,’ says Kim, a first-time Archibald finalist.
‘I made an album of Greg to help me remember him. It contains many photos of Greg and me, and all the artworks I made with Greg’s support. I miss Greg very much.’
Kim painted the self-portrait over the course of one day. ‘Following this artwork, I painted three more small works of myself remembering Greg; however, this first painting captured the essence of Greg.’
