Damian Showyin's first solo exhibition, Suede Blue, returns to tour regionally at Lismore Regional Gallery!
In Suede Blue, organic grids form the foundations of a landscape that feels both familiar and surprising. Audiences are invited to navigate the space intuitively, discover their own points of interest, and immerse themselves in Damian’s dynamic world. His process of layering and covering paint is applied gently and caringly to cardboard and wood, creating rhythmic, grid-like patterns that reflect his calm, intentional approach.
First exhibited at Mosman Art Gallery in 2024, this vibrant, meditative body of work was curated by Shan Turner-Carroll and explores the intersection between painting and sculpture in Damian's work. Drawing from a year’s worth of work, the exhibition builds an environment that invites wonder, curiosity, and playfulness.
“I paint different colours – blue, orange, red, white, pink, green, and brown. I like different colours. I feel happy when I paint. When I’m painting, I’m calm” - Damian Showyin
Suede Blue comes to Lismore Regional Gallery from March 27 to June 7. Find out More HERE.
