Mother at Maitland Regional Art Gallery

Visit Maitland Regional Art Gallery to see Victoria Atkinson's Angel Mum, Noel Humphrey in all its glowing glory! The work was a finalist in the 2022 Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW and was acquired last year for MRAG's collection.

'Mother' as a subject, concept or idea has been explored and depicted by artists across time and cultures. MRAG presents a selection of works from the MRAG Collection that reflect on new life, family bonds, love and loss that can all be the experience of Motherhood.

Angel Mum, Noel Humphrey is a tribute to Victoria's late mother, "My mum is always in my dreams. I like to put lights on the painting because I think my mum’s spirit shines on me the way the sun does. I imagine my mum floating on the clouds in the sky."
